Perched atop a hill in the village of Bashay (Karatu region), between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, Kilimani House overlooks the majestic escarpments of the Rift Valley. This unique vantage point offers spectacular panoramas of Northern Tanzania’s iconic landscapes.

The lodge is set in the heart of a fertile territory, living to the rhythm of the seasons and local agricultural life. Its strategic location makes it an ideal stopover on the Northern safari circuit, while offering a gentle and authentic immersion into local life.

A COUNTRY-HOUSE ATMOSPHERE
Kilimani House cultivates a timeless elegance, with its colonial-style buildings nestling in lush gardens. The bright, spacious rooms and cottages have been tastefully furnished with solid wood furniture, woven cotton linen and local handicrafts… Every detail tells a story.

All rooms feature terraces with breathtaking views over the valley or surrounding hills. In the evening, you fall asleep in a hushed atmosphere, lulled by the soothing sounds of nature, and in the morning, you wake up to one of the most beautiful landscapes in East Africa.

Activities

Crater tour

The lodge is only ten kilometers from the entrance to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Ngorongoro Crater is without doubt the most famous natural park in the world: an extinct crater 20 km in diameter, a unique landscape home to an incredible wealth of animals (lions, elephants, black rhinos, etc.).

Safari in Manyara National Park

Manyara National Park is just 30 km from the lodge. An emblematic park of the northern region, wedged between the high cliffs of the Rift and Lake Manyara.

Visit to an elementary school

Kilimani House has a long-standing partnership with Bashay Primary School. This public elementary school (1,300 students) has become such a center of excellence that it rivals the region's best private schools.

Coffee plantation

The Karatu region, and more specifically the Ngorongoro foothills, is a highly fertile agricultural area. Coffee is widely grown here. You can take a tour of the coffee plantations, visit the facilities and have the steps from harvest to cup explained to you.

Encounter with the Hadzabe people

Around 30 km from the lodge, the arid regions of Lake Eyasi are home to the last representatives of the Hadzabe people. The young Hadzabe invite you to spend a morning worthy of prehistoric times, with hunting and gathering.

Mountain bike outing

The Karatu region, with its hills, villages and canyons, offers a great deal of freedom. Bikes are available free of charge at the lodge. A guide will accompany you on these sometimes steep trails.

Massages

The lodge offers rejuvenating massages by the pool, perfect after hours of 4x4 driving.
